February 2015 Jazz Guitar News

2015-02-19 Rick Stone Trio at the Garage (facebook banner)

Greetings and Happy Groundhog’s Day,

Hope you’re having a great 2015. My winter break was fun and productive. We started the new year right, meeting up with lots of old and new friends at the JazzConnect Conference at St. Peters. I also caught a lot of great live music over the break including Ed Cherry trio at Jules Bistro (and again right here in Brooklyn at 5th Estate), saw Freddie Bryant/Santi Debriano Duo at Vella, Peter Bernstein/Russell Malone Duo at Mezzrow, Larry Coryell/Vic Juris Duo and Pat Martino Organ Trio at the Blue Note. So much jazz guitar music to report on in NYC. It’s like having 365-day-a-year jazz festival in your own backyard.
The new Jazz Guitar Lessons site is now up and running. We’re offering 3-Months of Premium Membership Free for the first 200 to join. Use the coupon code first200 at checkout.

February 7th & 14th Jazzmobile Registration
Jazzmobile registration/audition dates have been announced: 2/7 (for Piano, Bass, Drums, Percussion and Vocal) and 2/14 (for Trumpet, Reeds & Flute, Trombone and Guitar). There have been some changes this year.  You’ll find all the info on the application form here:

February 14th – Valentines Day at Coccola
And speaking of February 14th, that’s Valentines Day and I’ll be playing with flutist Elise Wood at Coccola Restaurant,  1600 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10031. Music from 7:30-10:30.  Make your reservations now 212-926-0580.

February 16th – Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks at Iguana
This is a fun gig (and very different than my trio). 1920s jazz with a band of top flight NYC musicians (and me playing a lot of banjo as well as guitar). Iguana is located at 240 West 54th Street (between Broadway & 8th Avenue), NYC. Music from 8:00-11:00pm. $20. Cash Cover Charge + $20. Food/Drink Minimum. Reservations are suggested. Phone: 212-765-5454.

February 19th – Rick Stone Trio at the Garage
It’s my pleasure to be performing with Harvie S (bass) and Joe Strasser (drums). We’ll be playing some of our originals and standards, and some new things we’re adding to the book. Lots of good friends stop by and we usually have a few surprise guests sitting in as well. Music from 7:00-11:00pm and no cover charge. The Garage is located at 99 7th Avenue South (at Grove Street), NYC. Hope you can join us!

Coming in March:
Friday, March 6th The Rick Stone Trio returns to the Bar Next Door at La Lanterna. Stay tuned for details!

Thanks so much for your support and encouragement. Hope to see you soon!
